The Menopausal Baby Boomer

New Menopausal Years, The Wise Woman Way: Alternative Approaches for Women 30-90 (Wise Woman Herbal Series, Book 5) (Wise Woman Ways)

As baby boomer women, let’s unite, through off the chains of PMS, move out from under the shadow of “menopause”.

Those of us in our 50s and 60s understand that these may be our best years. Women our age tend to be more cheerful, definitely more even-tempered, and a lot less stressed than women in their 30s. Most of us have our child-bearing years behind us. Many of us now have grown children that have (hopefully) moved away from our homes.

Yet, menopausal women have been portrayed as being queen “b***ch’s”. Yet we know that it is younger women who are more prone to be depressed, moody, cranky and just generally hard to get along with.

But let’s now kid ourselves, menopausal women still get hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, bloating, crankiness, just as our mothers, and their mothers experienced. It’s worse for some of us than for others. For some, hot flushes are really bothersome. Almost always, problems associated with menopause tend to peak at age 50 and minimize themselves rapidly thereafter.

For many of us in the baby boomer generation, menopause is no big deal. As career oriented women, we are used to the daily stress of a business environment and menopausal symptoms are the least of our annoyances. There is too much else going on for us to dwell on what we may be losing once menopause has past.

Those of us that have given birth, raised children, counseled our spouses and such are used to coping with life’s adversities and challenges. Unfortunately, those women who display little or no resilience in life matters also display little or no resilience with the experience of menopause. Those of us who search for tools and techniques to cope with menopause tend to be reflective and proactive in our search for complementary, natural remedies and philosophical approaches.

For most of us, menopause is not the life changing event that it once was.
