Baby Boomers Ultimately Susceptible To Hearing Loss

Save Your Hearing Now: The Revolutionary Program That Can Prevent and May Even Reverse Hearing Loss

One of the byproducts of aging is the unfortunate fact that we become susceptible to various physiological changes. Hearing loss is just one of those afflictions that, in some degree, will affect all of us.

As a national health problem, there is some concern focused on how a person’s hearing is affected during his lifetime. Many regulations requiring hearing protection have begun appearing at job sites and the workplace. The closer to the ear drum the sound source becomes the more sensitive it is. With the recent phenomena of the “earbud”, more and more young folks are experiencing high intensity sounds, sometimes on a near 24/7-365 basis.

As a result, the percentage of Americans with hearing loss is rising, not just with baby boomers, but also young people who play portable sound systems loudly. Experts contend that 25 percent to 40 percent will have hearing loss. People with hearing loss often will not admit it because they do not want to wear a hearing aid. And, the young many times do not even know that they are experiencing hearing loss as degradation can occur gradually, and the individual unknowingly adjusts incrementally to the loss.

Fortunately, there has been significant new technology in recent years that helps people to overcoming, or at least live with, their hearing loss. There are hearing aids available now that have eliminated the feedback or whistling problem that plagued users in years past.

Getting the right hearing aid requires a hearing evaluation. A licensed audiologist usually administers an examination, which takes about an hour. Depending on the results, the audiologist will consider the hearing loss issues, the type of environment the individual works, and the lifestyle needs of the individual. Some hearing aids are better for certain types of environments, plus there are always budget considerations.

Natural alternative treatment program to battle hearing loss safely and effectively is on the horizon. Using a specific combination of antioxidants, diet, exercise, and basic lifestyle changes, some programs can help to prevent and possibly even somewhat reverse hearing loss.

The book shown in this inset offers a simple self-assessment test that identifies the type, severity, and prognosis of hearing loss, comprehensive advice on diet and supplements, and natural remedies and important lifestyle changes that can make a difference.

This is one resource providing answers to the millions of hearing impaired baby boomers.

Silk Milk Founder Introduces The Probiotic Product GoodBelly For Baby Boomers

Allergy Cooking with Ease: The No Wheat, Milk, Eggs, Corn, Soy, Yeast, Sugar, Grain, and Gluten Cookbook

Many of us baby boomers are fast becoming advocates of using soy milk and products made from the soybean.

Soy milk is nutritionally close to cow’s milk, though most soy milk commercially available today is enriched with added vitamins such as vitamin B12. The product has about the same amount of protein as cow milk. Natural soy milk contains little digestible calcium as it that substance is bound to the bean’s pulp, which is insoluble to the human digestive system. Because of this, many manufacturers enrich their products with calcium carbonate.

Steve Demos, the man responsible for much of the popularity of soy milk in America, recently introduced a new soy product. This time it is “probiotic” foods for baby boomers. Steve’s first company, WhiteWave, Inc., created and marketed Silk Milk making soy milk a household product and a staple in Starbucks Coffee.

Recently the 58-year old entrepreneur launched NextFoods and started shipping Goodbelly–a line of stomach-soothing probiotic juice products aimed at baby boomers. Lp299v, the primary probiotic substance in GoodBelly has 15 years of research and a dozen clinical studies behind it. Through this rigorous research scientists have shown that Lp299v may have a beneficial affect on the symptoms of general gastrointestinal issues. In addition, Studies on Lp299v have indicated that it may improve immunity—giving your body a fighting chance against common illnesses such as colds. Read more »

The Elderly Targets Of Foreclosure Scams

The ForeclosureS.com Guide to Advanced Investing Techniques You Won\'t Learn Anywhere Else

A multitude of opportunistic scams are targeting homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure in the current housing downturn. Prosecutors in the state of California unsealed twin cases against 19 people who are said to have skimmed nearly $13 million in equity from 115 homeowners coast to coast under the guise of a mortgage rescue.

Federal investigators say they expect the number of people ensnared in fraudulent foreclosure schemes to grow given such financial straits. The Mortgage Bankers Association said a record 2% of the nation’s 46 million mortgage loans were in the foreclosure process at the end of the fourth quarter. The number of defaults on first mortgages is forecast to rise to 1.9 million this year from 1.4 million in 2007, according to a report by Economy.com using FDIC and other data. Read more »

Baby Boomers Face An Increasing Risk From Alzheimer’s Disease

The Alzheimer\'s Answer: Reduce Your Risk and Keep Your Brain Healthy

Alzheimer’s is expected to affect upwards of one in eight baby boomers during their lifetime. This startling statistic means that during the next decade the community of baby boomers exhibiting the effects of Alzheimer’s disease will number more than 10 million Americans.

The latest Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures shows that

• As many as 5.2 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s.

• 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s in their lifetime.

• Every 71 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s.

• Alzheimer’s is the seventh-leading cause of death.

• The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s and other dementias to Medicare, Medicaid and businesses amount to more than $148 billion each year.

Alzheimer’s disease is but one form of dementia, which is a clinical syndrome of loss or decline in memory and other cognitive abilities. It is caused by various diseases and conditions that result in damaged brain cells. It is characterized by a difficulty in remembering names and recent events which occur in individuals as an early clinical symptom. Later symptoms include impaired judgment, disorientation, confusion, behavior changes and trouble speaking, swallowing and walking.

A disturbing fact is that the lifetime risk for baby boomers will be greater because deaths from heart disease, cancer and stroke will probably continue to drop, increasing the lifespan during which the boomers could develop Alzheimer’s or other dementias.

Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s. But drug and non-drug treatments may help with both cognitive and behavioral symptoms.

Getting Fit With The Simple Push-Up

You: Staying Young: The Owner\'s Manual for Extending Your Warranty (You)

Those of us baby boomers taking charge of our personal fitness surely remember our high school gym instructor. I know I do. What was then a much hated individual, now is much revered for her views of personal fitness. I remember her most salient statement, a saying that has stayed with me for over forty years.

The statement goes something like this, “girls, exercise is not about making the team, it’s about allowing us to do what we want for the rest of our lives.” That is, the efficient functioning of our bodies is the basis for everything we do, wish for, and achieve.

Among the myriad of exercises we endured in gym class, the push-up was promoted as being the ultimate barometer of fitness. It tested the whole body, engaging muscle groups in the arms, chest, abdomen, back, hips and legs. It required the body to be held tight in a (near) horizontal position, with toes and palms the only parts to touch the floor. The act of lifting and lowering our entire weight was taxing even for the most physically fit of us.

I for one have always hated doing push-ups. But recently, with the aid of this table, working on the number of consecutive push-ups has help me determine my level of fitness.

Give push-ups a try. Once you see a modicum of success, you too may be hooked on this one, simple-yet-effective exercise.

Feeling Great After Retirement

Nsca\'s Essentials of Personal Training

Hopefully, as we baby boomers move towards retirement, staying mentally fit will be of prime importance. And, with the effects of aging, physically we are starting to feel the aches and pains of our increasing years. Although there is but a few things we can do to insure that our mind stays sharp, there is a lot we can do to maintain our health.

Experts tell us that the number one aspect of keeping the fitness of our youth is remaining active. Exercising may be harder for us baby boomers because of increased joint and early osteoarthritis pain. But at this age it is important to keep exercising to strengthen muscles and help to reduce stress on the joints that muscles support.

A few simple tips can help us with our physical health:

  • A good starting goal for those just beginning to take charge of their exercise regime might be exercising three days a week, 10 to 15 minutes each time.
  • For overweight boomers (who isn’t?), losing just five to 10 pounds can lessen the stress on knees, back and hip joints while helping reduce arthritis pain, and lessen the chance of diabetes.
  • Cut calories to lose weight as every pound equates to approximately 3600 calories intake. Cutting even 250 calories a day means losing a half-pound or more a week. Look for small ways to cut calories from your daily intake.
  • Flexibility exercises can help joints be less stiff and can make them more easily moved. Yoga and low impact aerobics are great activities for long-term health, not to mention the social interaction with other retirees.
  • Everyday activities translate into burned calories without you thinking of dieting. Most of us enjoy some aspect of gardening. Thirty to 45 minutes can burn up to 150 calories.

Long-Term Care Insurance Unattractive For Many Baby Boomers

J.K. Lasser\'s Choosing the Right Long-Term Care Insurance

Companies selling long-term care insurance have expanded their policies to include simple nursing home coverage to covering care in assisted living facilities and in an individual’s own home. These same insurance companies are busy marketing their product to baby boomers. However, according to a number of surveys, boomers are not listening.

The risk of boomers needing some kind of long-term care is as high as it was for the previous generation. Experts point to statistics showing that two-thirds of seniors will need it at some point in their lives. Fortunately, most will need the coverage provided by long-term care for only short periods. Just one-fourth of individuals over 65 will end up needing long-term care for one or more years.

Ideally you should not be taking out a mortgage if you are already stuck in a debt consolidation situation. In case of home mortgage however, you are often not left with an option. However if planned well, a mortgage will not become a nuisance for you.

Rotting Food Good For Your Health

Good Food Tastes Good: An Argument for Trusting Your Senses and Ignoring the Nutritionists

One of my long-time readers alerted me to an article which discusses the current problems with how we Americans shop-for and consume our food.

For me, it isn’t too much of an eye-opener as I have been championing “eating fresh” for decades. Certainly the title of the article

Don’t Eat Anything That Doesn’t Rot

is catchy, but a complete read is most enlightening for the masses.

Particularly phrases like

to understand the economics of the food industry, you can’t really make money selling things like, oh, oatmeal, you know, plain rolled oats. And if you go to the store, you can buy a pound of oats, organic oats, for 79 cents. There’s no money in that, because it doesn’t have any brand identification. It’s a commodity, and the prices of commodity are constantly falling over time.

and

we all know what the Western diet is, but to reiterate it, it’s lots of processed food, lots of refined grain and pure sugar, lots of red meat and processed meats, very little whole grains, very little fresh fruits and vegetables. That’s the Western diet — it’s the fast-food diet — that we know it leads to those diseases. About 80 percent of heart disease, at least as much Type II diabetes, 33 to 40 percent cancers all come out of eating that way, and we know this. And the odd thing is that it doesn’t seem to discomfort us that much.

By web standards, it’s a long read, but very entertaining.

Take a few minutes, the article could well save your life.

Thos who regular use skin care products must have known about the clauses regarding to drug interactions. In any case, women should regularly take vitamins and check their breasts regularly.
