The New Trend Of Baby Boomers Moving To Rural Areas
Why is it that most things come full circle?
Since WWII, the parents of baby boomers, and the baby boomers themselves have moved away from an agrarian lifestyle. A mass exodus occurred from “the country” to suburban and city living.
Parts of Florida, which were mostly swamp and farmland up through the 1950’s became residential and retirement communities. Property values soared. Property taxes also rose to untenable amounts, as governmental bodies struggled to provide services for the influx of new homeowners.
Now, the tide is turning.
Boomers contemplating retirement are looking for something besides a gated community in the Florida sunshine state. Some non-traditional retirement locales, such as North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, are becoming favorite spots with many boomers seeking an affordable venue in which to spend their remaining years.
