Tulsa Oklahoma Parks And Recs Changing For Baby Boomers
Tulsa Parks and Recreation is changing to better serve Tulsa’s fast-growing aging boomer population. Tulsa Parks has revamped classes and hired a program coordinator, Jennifer O’Leary, to cater to the 55-and-older crowd. Recent surveys of the growing 55-plus demographic have shown that active recreation options, including adventures such as hiking and river rafting, are among their top lifestyle interests.
Many new programs are in the works and will include free monthly lunch-and-learn sessions geared specifically toward baby boomers. Tthe first of these sessions will be Tuesday, January 29, 2008, from noon to 1 p.m. at Centennial Park’s Central Community Center, 1028 E. Sixth St.
Tuesday’s session will serve as an introduction to the program and focus on the importance of health and wellness for baby boomers and seniors.
My hat’s off to the Tulsa Parks and Recreation service for identifying and filling this need.
