Retired Baby Boomers Integrate Into Local Economy
Eighty-nine percent of baby boomers report that they want to grow old in their own homes and communities. Building the home and community support systems they need to do so makes the most cost-effective sense. But today, far too many seniors go straight from their homes to a health-care facility. With increasing discretionary income and time on their hands, elder baby boomers will contribute significantly to improving the community’s quality of life. Seniors have and will continue to support local arts and cultural programs through philanthropy, economic development and billions of hours of volunteer community service. We should promote and encourage this ongoing investment of time, and treasure this deep talent pool.
