iPods Perfect For The Aging Baby Boomers
For the generation we like to call “baby boomers”, the most culturally consequential innovation just might be Apple’s iPod. This MP3 player stores and plays the audio files used to transmit recorded sound and music. In addition, recent improvements allow similar players to store and display video images, including movies. Today, audio and video producers are designing their products to sound and look best on iPods, iPhones, generic MP3 players and other mobile devices. The widespread use of these players, that can store and retrieve files with the greatest of ease, make it easy to purchase music and videos over the Web from e-commerce stores like Apple’s iTunes, Wal Mart, Amazon.com and a host of others. Of even more importance, one of the consequences of growing older is presbycusis, the medical term for a progressive bilateral symmetrical age-related sensorineural hearing loss, almost always confined to higher frequencies. With specially tuned head phones, ear buds and players, we older folks can continue to enjoy the same music of our youth.
