Sherwin B. Nuland’s new book The Art of Aging, argues against “calendar-driven self-image” in favor of acknowledging that “no number can define us as middle-aged, or elderly, or the oldest old. We can be defined only by what we have become. Whatever else aging may represent, it is first and foremost a state of mind. In news sure to delight those who love to bash Gen Y for being money-hungry, baby boomers cited enjoyment and keeping an active mind as reasons they want to stay in work, with income less important. Baby boomers seem to be less driven by financial rewards and more by the stimulation and satisfaction they can gain from their jobs.
